Unexpected Illuminations

This painting was quite unexpected, I stared to prepare the background for a completely different painting I wanted to start. As I was going, things just started to happen and I began to ‘see’ interesting things appear, so I just went with it :).

“Shadows of Light” (working title)

DSCN7515

 Painted in acrylic. Size: 36″ x 36″,  91 x 91cm.

With the cost of canvas these days, I was seriously thinking of painting over this one, to do the original painting I had planned. I’m happy to say, I decided to keep this as is. I feel like I needed to honour the process that created it :). I would be very interested to hear what you think of it? Thanks.

  1. WOW! Awesome! What we dream, you paint!!
Actually, “Illumination” would be a good title. Or, “Into the light..” ?
Hope it’s true for us, though 🙂

    • Thanks so much 🙂 great title suggestions my friend, I’m probably going to do a bit more work on this painting and see what title fits…typical artist, never fully satisfied with their work :). Oh gosh Sonja, I truly hope so!!!!

    • Thanks Jacklyn, I really appreciate your feedback :). Hahaha, its still a mystery to me how this evolved!!! The beauty of abstract painting!

  2. For me it has a Lord of the Rings feel, or the feel of traditional faery tales/Grimms faery tales… you know, dark but hopeful/dark but beautiful. Love the light (:

    • Cheers Chris 🙂 I really appreciate the feedback, I always love to see how perceptions vary. Your thoughts are always so spot on.. ‘dark but hopeful/dark but beautiful’ just how I like it, haha!

  3. This is very cool! I see a story here. Definitely Lord of the Rings feel. But I love how the center looks ripped, almost like you’re getting a peek into another world. Plus, the light in the middle seems hopeful, almost like a hawk with wings, ready to take flight. But what do I know? I can’t paint worth a damn. I just know what I like…and I love this!

    • Thank you so much for your insightful comment :). For someone who ‘doesn’t’ know and can’t paint worth a damn, you just picked up on EXACTLY my process and fascination of getting a glimpse into other worlds, that are beyond our ‘normal’ comprehension and the story they may tell. Its Exactly the underlying goal I have with my art. THANK YOU desertdweller. If I could put it this way, I Love to paint from my subconscious :). Bless you!
